Joost Verbakel (1987) is a Dutch bass player based in Rotterdam with a deep passion for the double bass. He can be found playing in a wide array of musical styles, including contemporary jazz, blues, contemporary (chamber) music, and classical music.

Joost’s musical journey has taken him through various stages of study and collaboration, allowing him to develop a versatile and nuanced approach to the bass. After studying classical and jazz double bass at the conservatories of Rotterdam and Tilburg, Joost has been active in various musical scenes across the Netherlands and beyond. He has had the pleasure of working with a variety of ensembles and musicians, contributing to projects that range from traditional classical pieces to innovative jazz performances. Some of these collaborations are recorded and can be found on well-known streaming platforms. 

Known for his ability to blend different genres, Joost enjoys exploring the intersections between contemporary jazz, chamber music, and classical traditions. His work is characterized by a thoughtful approach to both performance and composition.

Recently, Joost has been exploring composition, working on his own musical pieces as he seeks to develop his distinct voice and express his own musical ideas. His first single “GLOW” is available on all major streaming platforms.

In addition to performing, Joost enjoys teaching and sharing his knowledge with others.
